Tara greeted me with a cup of coffee at the bus station in downtown Coventry. I barely slept an hour and change, so it was more than welcome. (I’m fairly sure I hijacked her cup, but she didn’t seem to mind too much.)
It took me more time than I’m willing to admit to get used to the cars driving on the left side of the roads. (Things to consider – on a bus, the exits are on the left; cars can park facing any direction they desire; when crossing the street, you need to look to your right, first – apparently, Tara learned this last one the hard way.)
Nobody cares about hockey here. Or the (winter) Olympics for that matter.
Cool (British) things I’ve already done – ridden on the second floor of a double-decker bus; eaten lunch at a pub; watched an episode of HIMYM on a projector in a computer lab at the University; sang along to “happy birthday” for a complete stranger in a British accent; killed a pair of French guys at foosball.
People are very friendly everywhere. Besides my kind hosts, I’ve had hour long conversations with two strangers who have already given me their number “if I’m ever in a pinch.” Definitely beats the cold glances I was given in the Phili airport trying to get wifi or warning a stranger that his bag was open.
The plan is to hit London tomorrow. Not going to lie – excited about that one.
I’m sorry that there are no pictures. I’m not quite settled yet and had a long day; I’m looking forward to just passing out. More to come tomorrow.
